OMERS will put at least $10 billion into new Canadian investments over five years, CEO Blake Hutcheson said, raising domestic exposure from 18 per cent to 25 per cent across its C$145-billion portfolio.

Combined with borrowed capital, the fund projects $20 billion in total firepower for infrastructure, real estate, defence and startup growth. The commitment follows Prime Minister Mark Carney’s push for major institutions to keep capital at home ahead of a September investment summit.

Graphite Ventures, a Canadian seed fund backed by Ontario and OMERS, raised $120 million in its most recent close. Its portfolio companies have generated more than 1,350 jobs and $10 billion in enterprise value since 2021.
