Opensignal’s latest report reveals that Canada’s top three telecom companies—Rogers, Telus, and Bell—offer nearly identical network performance. The biannual study indicates that all three providers rank closely in overall network metrics, with resilience, regulatory oversight, and satellite backup as key differentiators beyond traditional speed measures.

The report highlights that eight of the 15 awards are shared among the telecom giants. Telus leads with ten awards, including eight jointly and two outright. Rogers follows with nine awards, five jointly and four outright, while Bell secures seven awards, six shared and one outright.

Rogers and Telus emerged as joint leaders in video experience, with scores of 73.4 and 73.3 points, respectively. Bell trailed with 67.1 points. In mobile gaming, Rogers and Telus also led, scoring 81.2 and 81.5 points, with Bell close behind at 80.4 points.

5G Capabilities

Rogers excelled in 5G video experience, scoring 78.2 points, slightly ahead of Telus at 78 points. Bell lagged with 73.3 points. Telus topped the 5G gaming experience category with 90.1 points, followed by Rogers and Bell.

Bell dominated 5G download speeds at 198Mbps, with Telus and Rogers not far behind. Rogers led in 5G upload speeds at 25.3Mbps, outperforming Bell and Telus.

Coverage and Consistency

In coverage, Bell and Telus scored highest with 9.5/10, while Rogers scored 8.24/10. For 5G coverage, Bell and Telus again led, with Rogers slightly behind. Despite this, Rogers customers reported 5G availability 85.9% of the time, more than Bell and Telus.

Consistency in network performance was nearly identical among the providers, with all three achieving over 81% in customer satisfaction tests for common mobile tasks.

Implications

This report underscores the competitive parity among Canada’s telecom giants, suggesting that consumers can expect similar network experiences regardless of their provider. The findings may influence customer choices and regulatory perspectives in the Canadian telecom market. For more detailed insights, the full Opensignal report is available here.
