SaySo Launches Short-Form Video App to Combat Misinformation

A new player in the digital news landscape, SaySo, has launched its short-form video app in Canada and the U.S. this month. Designed to restore trust in news consumption, the app curates content from vetted creators and independent journalists. Amid growing concerns over misinformation and declining trust in traditional media, SaySo aims to offer a reliable alternative for news-hungry users.

SaySo differentiates itself by offering a personalized news experience that avoids the endless scrolling typical of other platforms. Users can tailor their content through the Daily Digest feature by selecting topics like politics, social issues, or public health. This curated feed refreshes every 20 hours, keeping users updated without overwhelming them.

The app also emphasizes transparency and trust by requiring creators to include sources in their videos. Content undergoes a moderation process combining human and AI oversight to maintain integrity. Dion Bailey, co-founder and CTO, highlights the app’s proactive moderation, which addresses issues before they reach users.

With about 30 creators onboard at launch, SaySo showcases diverse voices, including Nico Agosta, known for his series on financial dealings of U.S. Congress members, and Dr. Victoria, who focuses on racial justice. The app plans to expand its creator base and monetization infrastructure, with a focus on ensuring creators receive a significant share of revenue.

### Addressing Industry Concerns

SaySo enters a market where trust in news is waning, with a Pew Research study indicating only 56% of U.S. adults trust national news media. Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram have become popular news sources, yet they face criticism for misinformation and algorithm-driven content.

SaySo’s commitment to source transparency and moderation could set a new standard in the industry. By incorporating a “community notes” feature, similar to crowdsourced fact-checking on platforms like X and TikTok, SaySo empowers users to participate in content validation. This approach may appeal to audiences seeking more credible news sources.

### Implications for the News Industry

SaySo’s launch reflects a broader trend towards personalized and trusted news delivery. As traditional media outlets struggle with declining trust, new platforms like SaySo could reshape how news is consumed. The app’s expansion plans, including a U.K. launch this summer, suggest potential for significant growth.

Ramin Beheshti, CEO and co-founder, envisions SaySo as a new breed of news product, aiming to alleviate the overwhelm often associated with news consumption. The app’s focus on creator partnerships and monetization could also influence how content creators engage with news platforms.

As SaySo continues to expand, its impact on the news landscape will be closely watched. The app’s success could signal a shift in how audiences engage with and trust news content, potentially setting a precedent for future innovations in the industry.
